About SPOT 26

Meet Bryn and Lindsey

Bryn Brighton, M.Ed, CCC-SLP, is a Speech-Language Pathologist and Assistive Technology Facilitator, and Lindsey Marks, OTD, OTR/L, is a Doctor of Occupational Therapy. Bryn is the Speech Language Pathologist and Lindsey is the Occupational Therapist in SPOT 26 Therapy. 26 refers to the number of letters in the alphabet that are used to express ourselves.

Bryn and Lindsey are friends, educators, neurodiversity affirming therapists, and moms. We have a passion for working with individuals on the Autism Spectrum and other complex disabilities who have the highest support needs. We wholeheartedly believe in presuming competence (knowing everyone is capable of and wants to learn) and have seen the impact of this mindset on our relationships with clients and their families. Treating autism as a motor disorder resulting from the brain-body disconnect (apraxia), as well as listening to autistic voices has revolutionized the way we practice. We believe in treating ALL people with respect, and are devoted to empowering them, advocating with them, and supporting them along their journey.

After working in the therapy world for many years, we have found most success when treating people with complex bodies and challenging behavior from a motor planning perspective while accommodating their sensory needs. Improving the coordination of gross motor skills with ocular motor skills (movement of the eyes) is the foundation for accessing communication devices (low tech or high tech AAC). Addressing motor planning difficulties (also known as apraxia or dyspraxia) can help create new pathways in the brain to establish functional motor patterns for more consistent daily living skills.

Bryn is a Spellers Method practitioner, a method of communication that uses pointing to letters on a letter board or typing for communication. This method integrates co-regulation with a communication partner, provision of accommodations for sensory needs, performing whole body movement exercises, providing specific feedback to coach the body for optimal motor output, and presuming competence.
